Brief history of KATAYAMA .
The first Katayama Bunzaburo started the shibori tie-dye business in Kyoto in 1915. In addition to the beautiful yet simple shibori technique tradition that had been taken over generations to generations, the second generation, Katayama Fumio started production of kimono using assimilative beauty of shibori tradition and modernism in those days. Today the third Katayama Bunzaburo (Katayama Kazuo) further develops possibility of shibori. He is seeking ÔShibori in modern daily lifeŐ and is positively applying three-dimensional form and vivid color in addition to the traditional gentle texture and appearance of shiborie.

2004: New shop is opened in Kyoto
2005: Bai Shibori (shell shibori) necklace and scarf which has unique contour are sold at the shop of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
September 2006: Obai Shibori (big shell shibori) cushion was displayed in Maison & Objet, a trade show in Paris. Our products have been received high reputation from those international scenes with the novel beauty created by exceptional originality and sense of Japanese beauty.
